Data Center Power & Capacity SummitUSA
A two-day technical forum for the teams securing electricity for AI-scale digital infrastructure — interconnection, behind-the-meter generation, procurement and permitting.
Power is the constraint
The 9th U.S. Data Center Power and Capacity Summit is a two-day technical forum for power and energy procurement leads, grid interconnection teams, site development and permitting executives, and the generation and grid-infrastructure providers securing electricity for AI-scale digital infrastructure.
The power problem has changed shape. A decade of data center development assumed utility power was prompt, routine feeds sufficed and permitting was a formality. AI-scale demand has broken all three assumptions.
Grid backlogs pushing 70,000 MW in top markets now delay energization by 1.5 to 2 years. Behind-the-meter gas, fuel cells and nuclear have shifted from backup options to default requirements, with the emission and contracting complexity that brings. And local government entitlement dates, rather than utility agreements, have become the primary bottleneck for getting projects built.
Held in Washington, D.C., at the doorstep of the world's leading primary data center market, the summit brings together leading experts and influential voices from across the industry ecosystem for a high-level exchange of insights, ideas and perspectives shaping the future of data center power.
Topics to be discussed
Four pillars built from the questions operators are actually stuck on - from queue position to the day the first megawatt lands.
Grid Capacity Constraints & Interconnection
- Quantifying real queue wait times against original project timelines
- Reworking capital plans around a moving power-on date
- Deciding how much pre-leasing risk to accept before power is secured
- Reconductoring lines and expanding substations to unlock near-term capacity
- Mitigating the transformer, switchgear and busway supply bottleneck
Behind-the-Meter Power Generation
- Comparing turbine and reciprocating-engine deployment timelines
- Sizing on-site generation for primary versus backup load
- Meeting emissions standards without slowing commissioning
- Scaling fuel-cell arrays toward full-campus primary power
- Bridging the gap with gas and fuel cells while positioning for SMRs
Power Sourcing Strategy & Procurement
- Reviewing dedicated rate-class terms and cost exposure
- Weighing minimum-take commitments against flexibility
- Deciding what collateral is worth posting to hold a queue position
- Designing microgrids into the site plan from day one
- Shaving peak-demand figures used in interconnection studies
Permitting, Siting & Community Friction
- Pricing zoning uncertainty into land acquisition decisions
- Navigating special-exception approval after losing by-right status
- Scoping air-permitting requirements before locking in equipment
- Front-loading community engagement before hearings begin
- Building a repeatable playbook across counties with different politics
